Porta Carini

Porta Carini

It is named after the ancient door of Carini, built between the end of 1200 and early 1300, or one of the three doors that opened in the northern wall of the city. In 1325 it was seriously damaged by the attacks of Duke Carlo of Calabria in an attempt to penetrate the city and later rebuilt by the noble Ubertino La Grua. The latter, thanks to his merits, was awarded the title of Carini’s feud, becoming her prince.

It is located at the entrance of the popular market of Capo, a few steps from the court and the Teatro Massimo.
