Porta Felice
It takes its name from the ancient Porta Felice, built in 1581 by Viceroy Marcantonio Colonna to connect the Cassaro road with the other magnificent road running outside the walls along the beach, created in the previous year of the Viceroy.
The Palermo Senate, who had named the Colosseum (the current Foro Italico), decided to call (Felice) the new door in honor of Viceroy’s wife Felice Orsini. For about three centuries, Porta Felice was the protagonist of the Via Palermo: through its two pylons they entered many sovereigns, passed long processions, removed the triumphal chariot of Santa Rosalia during the traditional festin days, carriages and crews went out for the famous walk Of the Belle Epoque Marina.
