Porta Nuova
Near the extreme and highest point of Marmorea Street or the Cassaro Road, there was a port called “Palazzo” before the 15th century. It was subsequently closed and, towards the year 1460, another one was opened, situated right at the intersection of the Cassaro Road with the western curtain of the city walls, called the “New” people. On September 12, 1535, Emperor Carlo V entered Palermo, with the triumphs brought against the Turks in the Kingdom of Tunis.
It is located between Piazza Indipendenza and the beginning of Corso Vittorio Emanuele, just behind the Royal Palace (or Normans), the current seat of the Sicilian Regional Assembly.
